Magazine project | Montesdeoca

I wanted my magazine to be a travel magazine. Therefore I thought “Destination Paradise” is an appropriate name. Destination is in times 60 regular. Paradise is times 72 regular with a stroke of two. I tried to thicken the word by bolding it, however, by adding a thicker stroke it changed the appearance of the world. The orange color was taken from the picture and is in default as a rgb color. However when you click on its CMKY values the C=1.91 M=61.09 Y=100 K=.09 The colors of the headlines are C=.73 M=25.46 K= 0 Y=91.740 The website and date of magazine is in C= 0 M=30.88 Y=94.39 K=0 Instead of giving my picture a top margin I bleed it. The left margin is 3p5. The right margin is 2p4. The bottom margin is 3p0. I cut the page into three sections “Destination Paradise” is resting on the bottom of the second section. The website and date of the magazine is resting on the bottom of the third section.

First Spread.

I cut this page into 5 rows and 6 columns. The picture I thought was a great colorful picture that embodies what you think of when you think of an island and you’re not think of the cliché beach scene. I bled my picture in to four of the 6 columns. And the man in the picture points to the left which directs your eye to the article. The white space is colored with C=9.5 M= 7 Y=14.78 K=0. I took this color from a picture on my second spread and use it for all of the white space in this article. I came up with the title “Jamaica Jamaica”, from the lines in a reggae song I no. Plus it is simple and straight to the point. Both Jamaica’s are Sparta LT St 87. The red C= 5 M=93 Y=99.5 K=.25 is book classified. And the Yellow C=8.5 M= 29 Y=94 K=0 is heavy classified. The green is C= 72 M= 49 Y=97 K=55, Garamond 3 LT Std Regular. All of these colors came out of the picture. The rest of the body text is all written in Garamond 3 LT Std. The drop cap is in Sparta LT St and takes up four lines. It’s a little larger looking then it should be but it was the as small as it could get without completely un-aligning the paragraph. The top margin is 3p6. The bottom margin is 2p0. The left is 2p0. The folio lays on the bottom guideline and is spaced according to the guidelines. It is the same on both pages.

Second Spread.

The picture is bled to the top on the left sheet. The left margin is 3p1 the right is 2p0 the bottom is 2p0. The color’s in the pull quote are the same as in the head line to try to keep a theme of reoccurring color. I also placed the pull quote in the wall as I though it looked really cool on the lines of the wall. On the left page it is divided by guidelines into two rows. On the right side I divided it into 3 columns and 5 rows. The pictures lay across the bottom row. My side bar is filled with a 85% opaque golden yellow that was also used in the guide line. Its written in Geneva. The blurbs about them are 15pts, the headers on line 1) 2) and 3) are 19pts, and the main header is 29 pts. The tabs are set at .4 p. The pictures on the bottom are bled. The top margin is 2p0 the left is 1p10 the right is 1p3 and the bottom is 14p8.

  1. Great job on this! I really like the continuation of the color scheme from the cover through the last spread. Starting with the sunset/sunlit sky on the cover, all the dominant visuals have really warm inviting colors. I think this really matches well with your subject, since travel magazines are all about making places look warm and inviting. The warm colors are continued in the fruit on the first spread, as well as the background color of the sidebar on the second spread. It really connects all three sections of the magazine really well.
In fact, I was wondering if you use the eyedropper tool to take a color from one of the fruits and use it as the background for the sidebar.
Also, both colors of your headline fit this as well as they are warm colors too. Really a good idea taking the colors for the article headline from the adjacent picture.
