Magazine Project | Pruitt

I chose to do my magazine on Barcelona, Spain because I spent a month there when I was sixteen and I loved the city and already had some pictures.

Design: I put a border around all of the pages so they would have visual continuity. I used eight rows and twelve columns because that was what fit my pictures and story best. I color matched with the colors in the photo on my first spread and that was where I got the blue, orange, and green that I used throughout my spreads. For my magazine title, I used a color that I had taken from a photo in the side bar and used for the headline of my sidebar because I felt that it showed up well on the picture. I also used that color for the squiggle on my folios because I liked the continuity. The deckhead of my sidebar and the color of the bar is a green that I took from one of the photos in the side bar.

Type: I used Ex Pronto Pro for the main word of my headline because I liked the large and distinct “G.” I used Celestia Antiqua Std. for the other par of my headline because the font reminded me of the Mediterranean. For my magazine title, I used Florens LP Std. because I liked the movement it gave the font. That is also the same font I used for my page numbers.

Photos: Many of the photos, I took myself, but there were still quite a few that I found online because my pictures were not of a good enough quality.

Color:

The dark orange: C= 20.69 M= 69.48 Y= 97.2 K= 7.72

The dark green: C= 74.82 M= 27.07 Y=100 K= 12.66

The blue: C= 89.47 M= 63.56 Y=0 K=0

The light orange: C=0 M= 37.83 Y=100 K=0

The light green: C=61.91 M= 9.57 Y= 100 K= 0.36

  1. I absolutely love your intro spread. It makes me want to go to Barcelona right now! I also really like the colors and typefaces you chose for the spread. The typeface especially has a classy, sophisticated feel that makes Barcelona seem like a classy, sophisticated place. I also really like the orientation of the images in your jump spread. The contrast between the horizontal and vertical images makes the spread visually interesting.
