Week 10 | Lupton "Grid" Response | Llewellyn

The Darling Tree is a website for a freelance graphic and web designer. She uses this website to display her work and attract clients. The grid system in place uses a multi-column grid. The design works very well within the boundaries. It sticks very closely to the parameters of the grid and does not stray from the structure that the grid has created.

The grid allows the information to be split vertically into three sections. This easy division of information really makes it quick and easy for the viewer to find where they want to go. The main information (home, portfolio, about, contact) is clearly marked on the left while the sections, "featured projects" and "latest projects," are meant to catch the viewers eye so that they become interested and click to another page. I like the simplistic structure that the grid has created. I think it prevents too much information from being crammed into too little space. This web design makes very good use of its space. The structure helps to engage the reader because it is both interactive and easy to use. The design is clean and to-the-point but has a sense of style at the same time.

Overall, I believe that this design does not cause much tension. It is very simplistic the way that the three columns are set up; however, a little tension is created by the variation between white space and visual elements.
