I never thought I was going to create “a magazine spread” since is not my expertise, however, I think my project came out better than what I thought. Since I wanted to have fun with the assignment, I chose to make my story based on William Levy, who is my favorite soap opera actor at the moment. He’s a very great looking guy and since he was a model before acting, it was very hard finding pictures of him with shirts on, which made my research a little bit more complicated.
I chose Brioso Pro Bold for my main headlines because I really liked the thickness and the playfulness of the font. It also gives the magazine a touch of sophistication with the serifs. I think the contrast of the picture with the typeface worked really well together. I used Garamond for my text. It’s simple and easy to the eye. And it’s also one of my favorites typefaces. For my cover I wanted to use dark colors because since Willy is a sex symbol, the picture and the title of the magazine embrace each other. My first spread is very bright, has cool colors. The “William Levy” is such a strong contrast that it makes it stand out even more, and that’s what I wanted: an emphasis on his name in the middle of the sky. In the second spread I wanted to portray him as the father that he is. I wanted to have a contrast between sex symbol and a normal, down to earth guy; that’s why I chose the picture of him playing with his son. For that caption I saw a short quote that went perfect with the image.
Overall I wanted to portray William as the hot man he is but also as a very humble person. I played with the colors, which give contrast between strong sex appeal and a more humane person.
