Magazine Project | Lang

I chose to do my magazine layout on the city of Hong Kong. The story that I chose to use was about having 36 hours to spend in Hong Kong. I used this story because I felt that it covered a lot of aspects about Hong Kong and I could incorporate a lot of different pictures to show the reader all sides of Hong Kong. I really wanted to be able to show all sides of Hong Kong to a potential tourist so I used pictures of the city, some famous attractions and food.

The Typeface for my magazine cover is ITC Avant Garde Gothic Std. I wanted to use a sans serif font and I felt that this font was simple enough and very friendly looking. For my first spread I chose the script font Snell Roundhand LT Std because I felt that the picture I used was very classy and just a awakening picture so the script made it look elegant. My body copy uses ITC Berkeley oldstyle std and my sidebar uses Futura. These are two contrasting fonts being serif and sans serif but I felt that it would be easier to tell the information apart.

The yellow color that I used is C-0% M-36% Y-81% K-0%. The red color I used in the magazine name is C-15% M-100% Y-100% K-0%. I didn’t use a lot of color because for my bleeding photo it was hard to find colors that matched and I didn’t want to make the magazine look too crowded.

I found all of my pictures on Google images. I had a lot of trouble finding a cover image but for my first spread I knew I wanted to use that picture for my “wow” factor when I first saw it. All my pictures were large enough sizes and for my sidebar I used smaller visuals.

  1. S-LANG! I love that you did your magazine project on HK. I've never been, but the pictures that you put in the project make me want to go, really badly. Can we go next summer? K, thanks. Anyway, I think the cover picture and the main spread are just to die for - they're gorgeous photographs. AND YOU DID A FOOD SIDEBAR. YES. Congee & don tats & ha gaos.... I really want dim sum now. So as much as your magazine project rocks, you suck for making me hungry and want something that isn't found in Syracuse. Boooo.<3
