I freakin' love Barnes & Nobles' website. While most girls my age are building infinite, fantasy shopping carts on their favorite clothing store website, I am loading up on books I don't have money to buy or the time to read. It's every MegaNerd's pastime.
But the B&N website has a very attractive interface, as well. Beneath the toolbar, suggested reading, bestsellers, discounted products are arranged in a four-column grid. Every product listings includes a picture of it. This doesn't necessarily ease the user's navigation, but it does make the site more visually interesting. There is a positive tension, unlike its competitor's website. Amazon.com has too much white space- and not the artsy-fartsy kind. It just looks empty.
If you're not just messing around and are actually looking for a particular product, there are several means to do so. The search toolbar is large and positioned right underneath the browsing tabs. Beside it, there's a drop down toolbar so you can narrow the search results based on the type of product- book, movie, CD, etc. You can also browse by genre by visiting each categories' homepage.
One of the most AWESOME tools to simplify my use of the website is the Textbook search/sell center. On its page, you can search by title, author or International Standard Book Number. Every textbook has an ISBN code printed on the back cover. I can search quicker and more accurately find the exact product I'm looking for.
