Week 8: Logo | Wong

In addition to musicals, I am also addicted to news shows. I adore the Today show (but only the first (maybe two) hours, and the Nightly News with Brian Williams/Lester Holt. And really just any other news show on NBC.

The Today show logo uses the gestalt principles of similarity and equilibrium. The bright colors used make the series of arches behind the "TODAY" wordmark seem like a sunrise, or even the sun itself. It's a playful logo, which the morning show definitely is, and the bright colors used (yellow, orange and red) associate with a sunrise or a sun, helping the whole "morning show" concept. Yet, the logo is serious too because of the wordmark - "TODAY" is in all capital letters and in bold, showing that it is a news show as well - something that you can wake up to and stay informed with current events.
