Week 8 Gestalt | Robinson

1. Equilibrium- a circle is the most placid shape; closure- close the gaps formed by the missing puzzle pieces to complete the circle; isomorphic correspondence- the puzzle represents confusion and frustration, and a desire to "figure it out"; basic theory- the whole (the globe) is greater than the sum of its parts (the individual puzzle pieces)
2. Wikipedia is assembling bits of information to answer your questions. It's putting the pieces together. The globe is not complete because Wikipedia users are constantly building on what they know.
3. The typeface is a simple, pedestrian serif. It communicates that the service it provides is quick and to the point. The "A" is capitalized so it can form a frame for the globe, which is centered in Wikipedia. My only criticism for the Wikipedia logo is its color. It's a light grey hue, but I think I vibrant blue, or different colors for the different puzzle pieces, would illustrate the diversity of the users who contribute to the site.
