Week Five | Young

My first example is of the rule of closure, I'm including this image because the playstation logo (for some odd reason) is immediately what I thought of. The P and the S within the logo are grouped together in a way that they form one single entity. And the brain recognizes both letters as a P and S despite the fact that the P is not whole and the S is partially concealed behind the P.
In addition to this, when I was looking online I found a really different-looking image that is a great example of the rule of figure/ground. This poster is a 1950's photograph in which there are two optical illusions. Looking at it initially, one viewer may see a large image of a skull (I find this to be more true when the image is smaller), whereas another individual may immediately see the many naked women that are actually making up this image, their white bodies making up the skull's bone and teeth, while the blank spaces their bodies leave create the dark eye sockets, nose, and mouth.

  1. Good job, Jillian, on this post. Though I'm convinced this class is actively trying to make me blush by using so many examples that include or allude to sexual things, you did a good job on the analysis.

    Cheers,
