For my advertising class one of our assignments was to look at the websites of the top ad agencies in the world today and think about which company we would hire if we were a client. One of the websites that I looked at was that of EuroRSCG Worldwide, which is one of the top 5 most successful ad agencies today. While all of the ad agency websites that I looked at were very interactive in general, the website of EuroRSCG was so interactive that it spoiled my experience as a user. Here is the link to the website: http://www.eurorscg.com/ . While viewing and interacting with the website, I tried to think of myself as a potential client, looking to possibly hire this company. When I thought about it that way, the fact that it was just so highly interactive seemed childish and inappropriate for a professional company, especially one of the most powerful advertising companies in the world. In the beginning, the user has to click so many different pictures and buttons in order to hear the business's philosophy etc. that the company's mission etc. end up getting lost in the process.
On the whole, today's media continues to become more and more interactive, and I believe that it should, and that usually, interactiveness enhances the user experience with a product or service. However, sometimes it is just too much- as the website of EuroRSCG has displayed. Website interactiveness may be creative or artsy, but the bottom line is ease of use- if the user can find the information they are looking for with ease. A website's display may be the most creative in the world, but in my opinion if it is hard to navigate, then the website is unsuccessful.
Jillian,
ReplyDeleteGreat analysis and way to go by putting yourself in the perspective of a potential employer of a site/service. That's precisely how you have to go at critiques of design/etc.
Keep up the good work.
