Week One- McGlinchey

In my search for a typeface to blog about, what I found were a lot of type's which I felt very neutral towards. They did not grab me, but they did not turn me off either. Maybe I'm being too critical but most brand names out there seem to be doing just an "okay" job.

Although, one that did stick out to me was Dove. They have used soft curved lines which seem weightless above the dove bird. There is an overall rhythm and flow which guides the eye across the type. These characteristics are a great reflection of a moisturizer/ soap/ deodorant/ shampoo brand. After doing some research I learned that the original word mark was hand drawn (kudos!)

This says that Dove has put a great deal of though and effort into the way they are perceived by their customer. So much so that they did not want a typeface that another company could easily choose for themselves as well. So they started from scratch and implemented the imagery they felt represented their brand the best. I think they did a great job.

  1. Good eye - this is definitely a logo communicating well. They want you to think it will be just like your skin after using this product.

    Oh, advertising!

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers,
