We all know it, we all love it. It's fmylife.com. You can't avoid wanting to visit it when you get bored in class. Part of that is in its humor, but part of it is also in its sleek design that makes it easy to read and contribute. Every story comes up as a post in a blog on the screen with two options: "your life sucks" or "you deserved it." What I like about the type is the simplicity. It doesn't try to be something it's not. It doesn't try to be fancy or original. The website knows what it is and where the focus should be; on the content. This is a great example of when type should take a back seat to content and let what is important stand out.Trying to be noticeable through type would have hurt the website because things would have gotten clunky and hard to maneuver through. All I want to know is about the kid who's first hook up was his cousin and tell him he deserved it, not stare and Snowcaps font for half an hour. That's another reason why simple was indeed better. You aren't on for five minutes and gone. Before you know it, an hour of your life is gone. And I don't want to stare at novelty fonts for 60 minutes a day.
Jason,
ReplyDeleteKudos for honesty, but, DUDE, you should not be surfing this in class!
Good analysis, but would have liked to hear more about using it - if you were to post, where are things? why? does that help you use it faster or not?
More commentary on what this says about society would have strengthened your points.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
paul
