Davis | Resume

Design Strategy:

As an Advertising major (hopefully in the creative track), I wanted my resume to demonstrate my creativity and professionalism. I knew going in to the project that I had a lot of material to fit on to one page, so I needed to lay it out properly. In designing my wordmark, I wanted something strong and bold, yet simple and elegant. My wordmark also accentuates my first name, which is rather unique. I decided to use color to help accent certain parts of resume (and also help it stand out amongst other resumes). The color I chose (a reddish magenta) helps to counteract the overpowering Eurostyle font. Whereas the font is cold and masculine, the color is friendly (and arguably feminine). I settled on a two-column layout as it allowed for the most content on one page. The experience data is on the left because that is where the reader’s eye goes first. All secondary information is in a column on the right.

Choice of Typefaces:

For my wordmark I used Eurostyle Bold Extended. I was immediately drawn to Eurostyle because it is modern and strong. It is set in all caps to emphasize my work ethic and demeanor (consistent and determined). The wordmark immediately draws in the reader. The display type, used in the headings, is also Eurostyle Bold Extendend. Repeating the typeface from the wordmark helps to achieve a gestalt throughout the resume. Body copy is set in Century Schoolbook (Bold and Regular). Century Schoolbook is a modern serif that acts as a nice compliment to Eurostyle. It has a relatively high x-height and is a very readable typeface.

  1. Evan,

I love this design, it was by far one of my favorites when we presented in class the other day. I appreciate your use of bold text and colors to draw in the reader. Also, your use of 2/3 of the space, as Professor Taylor talks about often is really effective, it helps me to organize it in my mind! I also love the logo, and I would totally buy funky thick glasses with this stamped on the side of them. If I didn't know anything about you, I would look at this resume and think of a bold, confident and fashionable person. Love it!
