Let's start by saying that I watch a lot of TV. Like, I'm trying to catch up (from season one) on about 30 shows, and currently watch about 15 shows that are actually airing on television. Now, since I am a self-proclaimed TV addict, you'd think I have a TV in my room, right? Wrong. So, in order to catch up on my shows, I go and try to find online links to each of them. One of my favorite sites to do this is Hulu.

I love that Hulu has TV shows from the USA network, NBC, ABC and FOX for free and with limited or even no commercials. It's like watching TV without having to pay for the actual TV, or cable, or a lot of other things. The website itself is really easy to navigate - you can choose to watch either TV shows or movies (they once had the Power Rangers movie on the site, that was awesome), and from there you can browse popular television shows or movies. You can even browse and see all the different shows they have, if you don't see the show under the "popular episodes" or "popular shows." The site is also very clean, which definitely helps making user navigation very friendly. It's not cluttered with graphics or pictures or unnecessary material - the biggest graphics and links you see are the ones you want to see, and ones that would help guide you to the show you'd like to watch - unlike the actual network websites where there's so much information about so many shows that it can sometimes be hard to find the episode or show you're actually looking for.
Our media culture today actually caused this website to exist. If it weren't for the fact that most of us watch TV but hardly ever have time to actually catch it on its usual time slot due to work or classes helped Hulu to exist. I think in the future, (but far, far, far in the future), televisions won't exist and everybody will be watching their shows from their laptop because it's more convenient and easily accessible (especially for broke college students who can't afford to have a television in their room).
Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI, too, hulu! I love this site for the very reasons you mentioned - sure there's good hierarchy and easy navigation, but it also gets me my shows really fast. Good analysis and commentary.
What are all these shows you're watching? Let's talk TV sometime. Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
paul
